I Don’t Get It

There are so many things that I don’t understand in life. I don’t understand traffic or inflation. I mean, I understand in theory, but man why can’t people just drive! I really don’t understand the stock market yet but I’m getting there. Most of all, though, I don’t understand why bad things happen to good people. As the iconic Paul Rudd once said: “We accept the love we think we deserve”.

Life really is not fair a lot of the time but why? Because everyone has different priorities. When you are in a situation involving someone else, you create an expectation of that person. You think that they would treat you as you treat them, until you realize that their priorities are different than yours. This can happen with family, friends, teachers, you name it. I feel like I have mentioned this before but no one owes you anything. No one is obligated to care about your feelings, and man it hurts to realize that. You need to look out for yourself because even the people that you thought gave a damn about you, could turn against you.

I don’t have much to add to that honestly. It’s just the truth. When someone hurts you, all you want is an explanation or an apology. I am so sorry to be the one to tell you that you may never get the closure that you deserve. People will hurt you and sleep just fine the same night. People can be heartless and one of the toughest things to do is not let that turn you into a mean person too. You cannot let this world turn you mean.

The irony in bad things happening to good people is insane. People that play dirty tend to get ahead, and those that play fair get the short end of the stick. This world is so cold and I don’t blame people for being cold. I have been in some situations where I was getting screwed over but I refused to let that impact the way that I treat others. I am learning as I go, and so is everyone else. Please go easy on yourself, but go easy on others as well. Thank you so much for reading.
